K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

Installing the K-Lite pack enables almost all clips that you will find on the internet playable on your PC. It is much easier than installing Apples, Real , DivX etc separately and enables a wider range of clips to be played. Even better most clips can be played in the Microsoft's Windows Media Player. If a clip does not play there is Media Player Classic, this comes bundled in the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and is very handy for difficult clips.

The K-Lite pack has a large number of options, install with the default options but keeping the regular Microsoft's Windows Media Player as the default player ( this can also be done later by right clicking on Microsoft's Windows Media Player menu area selecting "Tools" and then "Options ..." then click on the "File Types" tab select all file types). This pack is also recommend for playing the sites Mating DVD's which contains hundreds of mating animal clips.

Download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

The K-Lite pack is included free in both the current versions of my mating video clip DVD's. It's in the /codec directory of the DVD's. There is a fault on some DVD's if the file will not install please download from - K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

Installing the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack

The window below is shown at the beginning of the k-lite install process.

There are a large number of options which may be set, some of these are shown in the window graphic below. It is recommend that you leave these options as set by the program as selecting alternate options can cause problems.

The window below shows the additional tasks window which comes up when the next button of the previous window is pressed. The K-Lite pack comes with its own media player called Media Player Classic which looks alot like the old Windows Media Player back in Windows 98 days. To enable of clips to run in Microsofts current Media Player deselect all the options below. On my slighly aging computer Apple Quicktime clips play jerky so I have selected Media Player Classic as the default player for these clips. The graphic below also shows Real Media clips set to play on the Classic Player but they do in fact play OK in Windows Media Player.

In case this talk of Classic Media Player ( which comes with the K-Lite install) and Windows Media Player ( installed as standard with the Microsofts Windows operating system) is confusing the two players are shown below. The basic player on the left showing Baboons at Paignton Zoo is the basic player that comes with K-Lite and the player on the right showing Cornish Wrestling. is the Microsoft's Media Player which comes with Windows XP and Vista. Microsofts player is normally the best choice as the default player while the Classic Player is best  reserved for any difficult clips that will do not play properly.
